BEESWAX CANDLE BURNING ADVICE

A Quick Guide.

  • Please never leave a burning candle unattended.

  • Keep burning candles away from pets and children.

  • Keep burning candles away from flammable materials. For instance, curtains.

  • Burn candles away from drafts. For example open windows

  • Always, burn on a flat surface and in a suitable fire retardant container or holder.

  • Keep the wick trimmed to about 5mm or 1/4″ when burning. Re-trim if flame gets too large.

  • Don’t burn candles all the way down. Stop when ½ inch of wax remains.

  • Do not use hurricane lamps or lanterns for your beeswax candles, as beeswax burns hotter than other waxes.

Natural candle bloom.

Over time beeswax candles sometimes develop a light, white coating called "bloom." This is a natural characteristic of pure beeswax, but also occurs with most candle waxes. Many people find this bloom quite aesthetic on the candle, but if you’d prefer to return your candle to its natural state, it can be gently buffed off with a soft cloth or even with your fingers. Or you can use a hairdryer on a low setting and quickly move the temperature across the candle.

Keeping your candle at its best.

It is best practice to keep your beeswax candle away from direct sunlight, preferably in a cool, dry place. Prolonged exposure to sunlight may fade its natural colour to a paler shade, but this is purely cosmetic and the candle will remain good to use.

If you display your candle as an ornament for an extended period, gently remove any dust before lighting it.

Using beeswax candles in lanterns and containers

Designed for open-air use: Most of our beeswax candles are designed to stand alone and burn without being enclosed.

If using a candle in a lantern or container, choose one that is appropriately sized and provides sufficient space around the flame. An unsuitable enclosure may trap heat and become very hot.

Always place the candle securely in a suitable holder on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and stop using it in the holder or container it becomes excessively hot.
